Donation To Post Office Users Group

Jacqui Sewell has donated a Buffalo Boiling Water Dispenser to the Post Office Users Group at Broadwindsor’s Comrades Hall.  This will save the volunteers repeatedly boiling kettles.

Before the pandemic, the Group offered regular teas and coffees when the Outreach Post Office services were there Tuesday and Friday mornings.  Jacqui Sewell will be offering drinks when she is there next Tuesday, 19th October.

Local Hedgehog Numbers Increasing

 

These delightful baby hedgehogs were filmed earlier today by village resident, Dave Shaw– just before he started his lawnmower up. Dave and his wife Ann have named them John, Paul, George and Ringo 🙂

Considered a gardener’s best friend, hedgehogs will happily hoover up slugs roaming in vegetable beds. Famously covered in spines, hedgehogs like to eat all sorts of bugs, but especially slugs and crunchy beetles. They are most active at night and hibernate over winter from around November to April, usually choosing to nest in piles of leaves or logs.

Locally, several hedgehog sightings have been reported at both sides of Fullers, in Redlands Lane and by the White Lion. More than one Fullers resident have even made accommodation for their regular nocturnal visitors.

Hedgehogs are protected in the UK under the Wildlife and Countryside Act, 1981. Priority Species under the UK Post-2010 Biodiversity Framework.

Telephone Box Book Exchange Update

Broadwindsor’s Telephone Box, which has been operating as a Book & DVD Exchange, was recently formerly adopted by our Parish Council.  Sadly, people continue to leave bags and piles of magazines on the floor of the telephone box – they are not suitable at all: creating mouldy paper and an unpleasant experience for anyone entering the telephone box.  Please show our Telephone Book Exchange some respect.

Chris Edgerley – March 2021

This week, all the mouldy magazines were removed and the books boxed up as work begins on fitting proper shelves inside and painting the exterior.

The work is being carried out on a voluntary basis by village resident Chris Edgerley, who rebuilt the ammonite wall in Bernards’ Place in the Spring of this year.

Broadwindsor Film Club – Friday, 15th October, 7.30pm

This month Broadwindsor’s Community Film Club are showing “Dream Horse” (PG) on Friday, 15th October, 7.30pm at the Comrades Hall.

Directed by Euros Lyn & starring Toni Collette & Damian Lewis, it tells the story of  Jan Vokes, a cleaner and bartender, recruits her reluctant husband Brian and local accountant Howard Davies to help her bring together a syndicate of villagers to breed a foal – which they raise on an allotment and name Dream Alliance.  On the racetrack, he proves himself to be more than a match for the multi-million-pound race horses he comes up against – a true working-class champion, taking on the establishment at their own game.  But much more than this, Dream begins to alter the lives of everyone in the syndicate, not least Jan’s.  He is everything to her: friend, confidant and an escape from a life of always putting other people’s needs first.
Dream Horse is a classic story of triumph against adversity and a tale of how a woman strives to make her dream a reality in a place where hope is thin on the ground.

Recording activity should be respectful to the conduct of the meeting and behavious that disrupts the meeting (such as oral commentary) will not be permitted.  Any member of the public shall not speak for more than five minutes.  A question asked by a member of the public during Public Participation shall not require a response or debate during the meeting though the Chairman may direct that a written response will be provided subsequent to the meeting.

The Autumn draw took place on Tuesday 7th September  2021 at the Comrades Hall Post Office. The numbers were drawn by John, the Post Office Outreach Clerk.
