Brian Hedditch: 15.03.1937 – 27.09.2021
Brian passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family.
Born at Netherhay Farm, he spent most of his life in the parish. His life revolved around his family, farming and the community.
Brian’s funeral service will take place on Tuesday 12th October, 12.30pm, at Broadwindsor church, followed by a wake at Comrades Hall. All will be welcome to join the family in sharing happy memories of Brian over light refreshments. A private burial will be held in Burstock.
Sincere condolences go out to his family at this sad time.

The Comrades Arms Opens At 6pm Tomorrow
Opening it’s door tomorrow (Friday 1st Oct) at 6pm is The Comrades Arms in the Lewesdon Room, upstairs at the Comrades Hall in Broadwindsor.
Recently returned from France, village resident Andrew Hookings will be running the Comrades Arms as an individual, along with the support of volunteers. He did this several years ago, for a period of 4 weeks inbetween landlords Rich & Kate Moulsdale and Spike & Vikki who had the tenancy at The White Lion. It proved very successful and the proceeds, almost £2,000, went to the village hall.
Andrew commented: “The Comrades Arms will provide a venue in the heart of the community for people to get together socially and enjoy a drink, whilst the White Lion is closed.
With the “Save The White Lion” campaign getting off the ground soon, it seems appropriate for the proceeds from The Comrades Arms to go to such a worthy cause.”
As well as being open at the weekend, the Comrades Arms will be open on a Tuesday evening for those who’d like to eat their fish ‘n’ chips from Nat’s van with a drink.
With some stock and supplies, £400 worth this week, being sourced through Broadwindsor Community Stores, our village shop should benefit too 🙂
Other ales and ciders have also been sourced locally.
It is hoped that you will be able to use your debit card tomorrow night but bring cash – just in case!

Collect Your Postage Stamps For Weldmar Hospice
This is 11 year old Zoe Raymond from Blackdown and she is collecting postage stamps to raise funds for the Weldmar Hospice. The stamps need to have at least 1cm of envelope around them.
She is collecting them in memory of her grandad Lloyd Curtis, who died earlier this year. If anyone has any, then please call 01460 30471 and Zoe’s mum can collect them.

A Byway Open to All Traffic Along Lewesdon?
Dorset Council has received an application to modify the definitive map and statement of rights of way. The effect of the application, if successful, will be to alter Dorset Council’s record of public rights of way by adding a Byway Open to All Traffic along Lewesdon. A register of Definitive Map Modification Order (DMMO) applications is kept to help increase knowledge among landowners, users of rights of way and the general public about applications which could result or have resulted in changes to the definitive map and/or statement.
Hill Lane from the eastern end of Bridleway W26/16, eastwards to the public road at Stoke Knapp in Stoke Abbott Parish.
The applicant has based the claim entirely on historic documentary evidence but in due course user evidence will also be considered. Although the investigation into this application has not yet begun, parishioners can submit any relevant evidence that can be included in the Council’s report, after investigation by officers.

Spectral trees emerge slowly
from the cloying blanket of mist
Languid shanks of cable
span the gaps
in a line of skeletal poles
receding…
to the mist locked valleys below
A pale peach accent to the sky
hints at the possibility of dawn
Distant hilltops
poke like islands
from the waters
of a silent silver estuary
Stubborn mists
cling to the fields and trees
This gradual unveiling
This restoration of colour
to a silvered landscape

This is Kirsty who opened her Unit, Wooly Wonders at Redlands Yard in June earlier this year.
Having Linda Paget‘s marvellous Stableyard restaurant outside provides the perfect setting for Kirsty’s weekly Knit & Natter afternoon sessions. An official Style Craft stockist, there is a fantastic array of beautiful yarns and either Kirsty or her knowledgeable staff are there to help.

Live-In Manager Sought For The White Lion
The Steering Group of the Save The White Lion campaign released a job advertisement this morning. We are assured that negotiations with Palmers continue to move forward positively. The Steering Group have applied to the regulatory authorities to have the Community Pub set up as a not-for-profit legal entity and this will take 4 weeks.
The Group need to go through this process to “search for a talented couple or individual to take control of the day-to-day operations, likely to be around December ‘21 or January ‘22“.
What they want:
“We’re seeking a couple or an individual who can bring both aspects. You’ll be experienced, with a proven track-record of building great food-led businesses, and of course running a bar with well-kept ales and a wide variety of wines and cocktails. You’ll define and shape the menu, source local ingredients, and build a reputation for quality. And always a warm welcome and excellent service.”
