Work Starts At Comrades Hall – Monday 10th January
Work begins on Monday, 10th January at the Comrades Hall to replace the central heating system. An air source heat pump system is being installed to replace the current old oil-fired system. In addition, they are installing 36 solar panels (PVs) across 3 roof surfaces.
The electricity generated will power the daytime use in the Hall, with the surplus directed to heating the water, and any remaining surplus after that sent to the National Grid. These installations will greatly reduce the carbon footprint of our village hall. This work is being funded largely thanks to grant funding awarded by The National Lottery Community Fund and Low Carbon Dorset.
Obviously there will be disruption to normal hall usage while this work is taking place, but please be assured that Post Office services and Comrades Arms sessions will still take place as usual, and that any existing hall bookings will be able to go ahead.
Please direct any enquiries to Chairman, David Leader: 01308 868275.
Thank you.

Chris Loder MP Responds Via Social Media
West Dorset MP, Chris Loder turned to social media to put his response to why he voted against Amendment 45, allowing raw sewage to be dumped into our rivers (read more HERE). His reply read:
It is also worth everyone noting that Parliament is doing its work and this Environment Bill has not completed its legislative path through parliament yet and it will likely have further improvements as it completes its legislative process and becomes law.”

Chris Loder MP Allows Raw Sewage Dumping Into Our Rivers
While the U.K. prepares to host the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) in Glasgow on 31 October, last week MPs voted on Amendment 45.
“Lords’ Amendment 45 to the Environment Bill would have placed a legal duty on water companies in England and Wales “to make improvements to their sewerage systems and demonstrate progressive reductions in the harm caused by discharges of untreated sewage.”
“Despite the horrendous environmental impact of the disgusting practice, shortly before the vote, the Conservative Environment Secretary George Eustice recommended to his fellow MPs that they should reject it.”
“And, owing largely to the government’s 80 seat majority, the amendment was indeed defeated – by a margin of 268 MPs to 204.”
West Country Bylines published an article two days ago with the following information from Evolve. They extracted the names of those MPs in our region whose vote was against the Amendment. Chris Loder MP was one who voted against the Amendment.

Goodbye & Good Luck!
…to Vikki & Spike, now ex-landlords of Broadwindsor’s pub, The White Lion.
Vikki and Spike are off to pastures new, closer to family at The New Inn, Park Lane Off Church Street, Blagdon, Bristol, BS40 7SB. The venue appears very attractive situated by Blagdon lake and several locals have already declared promises to take a trip to visit them and of course, all will be welcomed.
Thank you so much Spike and Vikki for everything you have contributed to our village while you have been here. You have been an invaluable part of our community. You will be sorely missed but we all wish you both wealth, health and prosperity in your new venture.
What’s happening to the pub?
The Parish Council is waiting to hear back from Palmers Brewery re: negotiations of the building becoming a community run pub: initial village feedback would indicate the situation is fraught with problems as anyone taking over is subject to Palmers’ rules, ales and pricing. Click HERE to view the latest local news at the time of publishing…. we wait.
#PALMERSBREWERY
Where will people go?
The nearest pubs out of the village are:
- The Knapp in Beaminster.
- The Royal Oak in Drimpton.
- The Admiral Hood in Mosterton.
- The New Inn in Stoke Abbott.
