Broadwindsor Fun Group’s Party Gets The Go Ahead

Dear Broadwindsor residents,

I write to confirm that the party planned for next Saturday, 18th December to raise funds for the Jubilee Fun Day, IS GOING AHEAD.

When planning the event we had given much thought to any risks regarding Covid and it is due to that consideration, we are able to still to do so. Naturally all Government rules will be followed. The numbers of tickets have been restricted to around 50% of the hall capacity so space should not be an issue. We will have hand sanitizer at the door and ask that everyone uses it please. Similarly we would ask that attendees compete a lateral flow test before arriving. Masks should be worn when moving around and whilst not strictly required whilst dancing, wearing is encouraged.

Thanks to those who are supporting the event, we certainly need something festive in the run up to Christmas!

I hope to see you there, some tickets are still available from the village shop.

Festive Regards,

Adrian
Chair BFG.

Save Our Pub Gig Postponed & New Rules At Comrades Hall

The Steering Group had organised a FUNdraising gig for The White Lion, Broadwindsor on Saturday, 15th January, 2022

Below is the content of an email sent out to all hirers of the Comrades Hall. Consequentially, the event has been postponed.

QUOTE:

This is a general email to all hirers to give you information regarding the latest changes in Covid regulations as announced by the government on Wednesday, and how it may affect your use of Comrades Hall.
At the present time, Comrades Hall remains open for use.

From FRIDAY 10th DECEMBER:

Comrades Hall is considered an ‘indoor public space’ and therefore mask wearing should be mandatory inside the premises. This applies to any users of Comrades Hall over the age of 11, except for those who are exempt, or where a separate risk assessment/ group association policy is in place for youth organisations.

However, where hirers and their users are sitting down to eat or drink, or carrying out exercise, then masks do not need to be worn. In these circumstances, participants should put their masks back on once they are able to do so, and when moving around within the premises. Please ensure you as the hirer explain this to your participants should your use of the hall include this option.
More information can be found here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-54373904

Due to the small capacity of Comrades Hall events, currently no covid vaccine passport would need to be shown for any event or hire, but it would be good practice to ask your participants to take an LFT before attending an event at the hall.

All other information remains as per my previous email and according to https://www.gov.uk/guidance/covid-19-coronavirus-restrictions-what-you-can-and-cannot-do

**COVID Vaccine Availability**

Mike Hewitson  from Beaminster pharmacy has just released the following information:

I have just uploaded another 500 appointments for an additional clinic next Thursday. You can book these via 119 or nhs.uk website.
Our team of vaccinators and volunteers are giving up their precious time before Christmas so that you can enjoy yours, I respectfully ask that if you book one of these appointments you don’t try and get a walk-in vaccination elsewhere. We saw approximately 60 of today’s appointments didn’t turn up (which allowed us to provide some walk-in availability).
Thanks,
Mike & Team

Thank you & your marvellous team Mike!

Trying to Trace Hutchins Family In Broadwindsor…

The photograph shows Linda Hutchins Taniguchi. Linda plans to visit the village next May (Covid allowing) from the USA.  Linda has provided the following information in the hope of moving forward with her quest to trace more of her family…

Linda’s Hutchins family was from Broadwindsor back to Mathew Hutchins (1640-1708) who is buried in the cemetery. His son was Hugh Hutchins (1667-1727), is also buried there.

Hugh‘s wife was Mary Knight and Mathew‘s wife was Margaret (surname unknown). Hugh‘s son was Thomas Hutchins who travelled to the USA in the late 1600’s or early 1700’s and settled in one of the original 13 colonies, Massachusets.

Does anyone know of any Hutchins still in the area?  If you have any information on these families that you can share, Linda would really appreciate it! Linda also asks if there is anything in the area named after Hutchins?

Please contact info@broadwindsor.org if you can assist.

Thank you!

Shop Manager Kevin Wins The White Lion Cake

Kevin Madder-Smith, manager at Broadwindsor Community Stores won this glorious cake at this morning’s Three Churches Christmas Coffee Morning.

The cake was a portrayal of The White Lion Pub and was baked by Kate Staff.   It raised £118 for the Save the White Lion fund.

Kate’s last cake raffled on Broadwindsor’s Fun Day raised a similar amount for a charity close to her home and heart, the Turner Syndrome Support Society.  Read more HERE.

The morning was a successful one with good attendance and tasty, warm mince pies.  The Three Churches raised a significant amount in their raffle too 🙂

Congratulations Kevin!
