Steve Knightley – Friday, 29th September

In a brand new one man show, ‘Unlock Me & other Lockdown Laments‘, Steve Knightley will perform material that surfaced over two years of isolation and inactivity. Songs such as the Bristol Slaver and You’ll Get By were refreshed by headlines and current affairs whilst classic covers such as Forever Young and The Boys of Summer struck a chord with the thousands that tuned in to his hours of online content.

Insights, anecdotes and a bunch of new songs will attempt to chronicle and draw a line under an extra episode in all our lives. BBC Radio 2 commented Committed and distinctive songs of love, conscience and history” .

Steve will be performing at Broadwindsor’s Comrades Hall (High Street, Broadwindsor, DT8 3QP) on Friday, 29th September 🙂

Doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start.

Full Moon -Tuesday, 1st August

According to the Royal Observatory, Greenwich, the Full Sturgeon Moon will be full at 19.31hrs. on Tuesday evening. It is also a Supermoon.

The Sturgeon Moon is also referred to as:

  • Full Green Corn Moon, signalling that the corn was nearly ready for harvest.
  • Grain Moon,
  • Fruit Moon,
  • Barley Moon
  • Wheat Cut Moon
  • Blueberry Moon

August also brings us the most popular meteor shower of the year.  As our planet rotates the sun, every August, the Earth crashes into a cloud of debris left behind by the comet Swift-Tuttle. As the debris burns up in the Earth’s atmosphere, it produces the meteor shower that we call the Perseids.

This year, the Perseid meteor shower is active between 17th July and 24th August. The shower will peak 12-13 August and if skies are clear, it can be one of the most dramatic things to see in the summer sky.
Meteors can appear in any part of the sky so the more sky you can see the better…

  • Reduce the amount of light pollution in your field of view.
Find an area with a clear view of the horizon and away from trees and buildings.
  • Binoculars and telescopes are not necessary as they will restrict the size of the sky that will be visible to you.

Look up and enjoy the show! 🙂

Donations For Dave Chumbley

Apologies from the Editor for the delay of this information…a message from Dave‘s son, Adam

On Friday 7th July, my Mum and I said goodbye to Dad at Yeovil Crematorium. Dad did not want a lot of fuss so it was just perfect the four of us being together.

It was dad’s wish though for any donations to be made to Weldmar Hospice, who looked after dad so brilliantly. They made him comfortable and nothing was too much trouble. And also the RNLI who he had had contact with during his volunteering role for the National Coast-watch Institution. I am providing links below as many of you have been asking what dad would have liked.

Thank you for your kind donations. 😊

Sam Starts Charity Cycle This Monday, 17th July

Sam Cochrane sets out from Oslo, Norway Monday morning to start peddling on his journey of an estimated distance of 2,200 kilometres… Destination Poole, Dorset, U.K.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, Sam is unlikely to make it to Broadwindsor after his event but did send this message into the Editor earlier in the week:

With the start date closing in quickly for my cycle, I just wanted to reach out to yourself and the those in Broadwindsor and Beaminster who donated and say thank you for the donations.
I know the charity is very happy with the overwhelming support I have received in undertaking this fantastic opportunity for them. I also want to say a massive thank you to you also for publishing it on the local webpage, without gaining the reach I have so far with this, it would not have been as rewarding for the charity and a thank you goes to the White Lion and The Knapp Inn as well for placing my poster in their pubs for all to see.
Kind regards,
Sam Cochrane.

If you’d like to keep up with Sam and how he progresses, then follow his blog  – visit https://oslotopoole.weebly.com

If you haven’t donated yet and would like to – you can scan the QR code on the poster above or click HERE to visit Sam’s Just Giving page and make your donation to support the Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance,. Thank you!

We wish you safe travels and good luck with your journey Sam! 🙂
