Tomorrow, Thursday 26th the Over 60’s Group are having their first meeting of the year at 2.15pm in The Comrades Hall.

Always with a tea or coffee, the group frequently invite a speaker of interest and in the summer, enjoy coach trips out.

Snowman Drive – Saturday, 11th February, 6pm

Blackdown Village Hall are hosting a Snowman Drive – just like a beetle drive except you’re drawing a snowman like the one shown! Great family fun.

Take Time For Your Body & Wellbeing This Year

Make your Self the priority and take time for you this year!

Pilates: A series of exercises designed to strengthen, condition and mobilize (increase flexibility) the whole body, with emphasis given to the core and back muscles. Pilates has been proven to have a positive effect on specific back ailments.

Yin Yoga: Using active stretching to lengthen and improve muscular elasticity, Yin Yoga consists of a series of passive floor postures that you will hold for up to 5 minutes and sometimes longer with the use of breath and mindful connection.

All classes take place in the Lewesdon room, upstairs in the Comrades Hall.

Pilates:

Wednesdays at 6pm
Saturdays at 9am

Yin Yoga:

Saturdays at 10.30am

Although you can just turn up for any session, instructor & village resident Leon Lord does prefer it if everyone books using his booking system which can be found HERE.

Souper Friday Warm Space Continues Into February

Broadwindsor Fun Group have been operating a Warm Space offering free homemade soup, teas and coffees at the Comrades Hall on Friday afternoons from midday throughout January. This has been so appreciated by those who have come along, the Fun Group have decided to extend their commitment and continue into February 🙂

Souper Friday Warm Space will continue this Friday and on Friday, 3rd, 10th & 17th February.
Thursday Lent Lunches begin at the Comrades Hall on 23rd February.

BFG cover the cost of the hire of the hall & 4 members voluntarily commit their time. All bread, soup, jam and butter is donated by lovely village residents & local businesses.
Any donations made go directly to the Post Office Users Group.

Meet people, have a chat, get some delicious warm soup in your belly this Friday, 27th at midday when one of our village residents is celebrating his 91st birthday! 🙂

January from 5-8pm and fortnightly thereafter, Broadwindsor village will be welcoming Gennaro and his team in their Basili.co pizza van, who will be offering a true taste of Napoli! Their mission at Basili.co is to bring the uncharted taste of true, artisanal Neapolitan pizza to Dorset & Somerset.

Their dough is made fresh every day in-house, bulk fermenting for 30 hours to create an incredibly light, fluffy and flavoursome base. They cook their pizzas at over 450 degrees, using kiln-dried local oak to give a hint of char. They’re ready to eat in under 90 seconds. Delizioso!

The Basili.co van will be in the square from 5pm and when the pub opens at 6pm you’re will be welcome to take in your pizza to eat there. Plates, cutlery and condiments will be provided. Village resident, Lisa McKenzie will be providing home-made puddings, which will also be on sale in the pub.

Join the Big Garden Birdwatch, 27th-29th January

The RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch is fun, free and for everyone. You don’t need a garden to take part!

Counting birds from your balcony, or your local park will play a vital role in helping the RSPB understand how UK birds are doing. Let’s look out for birds together on Friday 27th through to Sunday 29th January.

There are 3 things you have to do:

1. Watch the birds around you for one hour.
2. Count how many of each species of bird lands on your patch.
3. Go online and tell us what you saw.

Why is this important?

The fact that we’ve lost 38 million birds from UK skies in the last 50 years underlines that nature is in crisis. We see it in our own back gardens with house sparrows struggling and starlings undergoing a severe decline. As a conservation charity, your Birdwatch results help the RSPB monitor how our UK birds are faring in the face of the nature and climate emergency. But they can’t do it without your support.

Attracting birds to your garden:

With birds facing greater challenges due to the nature and climate emergency, every Birdwatch matters. So it’s time to get your patch ready for Birdwatch. Top up your bird table and fill the bird bath to the brim. Make sure to remove old food and clean your feeders weekly, as disease can be a serious issue for some species.
Greenfinch numbers have massively dropped due to a disease that spreads around contaminated feeders and water bowls, and chaffinches are now struggling. Click HERE for guidance on cleaning feeders to keep you and your garden birds safe.

Update On Tetrapak And Foil Recycling

Update from Hursey resident, Sara Dyke:

In response to my recent post on Broadwindsor.org, I am delighted to report that we now have a full rota of volunteers (including several on the reserve list!).

Firstly a massive thank you to those who are willing to continue to volunteer and to those who have stepped up to fill the gaps. Your help is hugely appreciated.

Secondly, as a community, it would be really helpful to continue to use this facility considerately and I would like to gently remind everyone that the volunteers are handling the recycling and transporting it in their own vehicles. If we could all follow the following guidelines it makes the job more pleasant. Please also see the photos as a reminder of what to recycle.

Please ensure the tetrapaks are CLEAN and FLATTENED to maximise bin space.
Please ensure the foil is CLEAN and FLATTENED for the same reason. If milk bottle lids can be put inside a larger foil tray if possible. This speeds up the process and prevents litter on windy days!
Crisp packets are NOT to be put in the foil recycling. Basically, if it doesn’t keep its shape when scrunched up, it cannot be included with the foil.
If you drive to shop at Morrison’s or visit Bridport Recycling Centre, you may want to consider taking your recycling there at the same time. There is also a foil recycling bin at Yarn Barton car park in Beaminster. This would free up space in the bins for those who don’t drive or who are unable to do their own.

Barton House Medical Practice in Beaminster have altered their dispensing hours in order to reduce disruption to the smooth running of the practice due to ‘urgent’ medication requests.

Harold Jenkins 16.01.1940 – 14.01.2023

Sadly, village resident, Harold Jenkins died peacefully in his sleep at home on Saturday morning.

Harold & his wife Margaret operated as First Responders for several years within our community. Harold was also a judge for many photographic competitions including The Melplash Show.

Harold leaves behind his wife, Margaret with whom he celebrated their Diamond (60 years) anniversary at the end of last year and his two children, Nick & Elizabeth.

There will be a private cremation and a remembrance service will be held at a later date. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
